Today is one of the greatest days in the life of our university and our people: the day on which we honor our graduating students. This semester, more than 2,500 students will earn their degrees from VCU, and I could not be prouder of every one of them.
They are not earning a degree from just any place. They are earning a degree from a major national research university, which means that their educational foundation has been forged by thriving in discovery. The research we do here — which is the bedrock of our students’ unique experience — begins in the unknown and then becomes innovation, creativity and opportunity for people everywhere.
At VCU, we discover what no one has ever understood before. We create what no one has ever seen before. We cure people who have never had hope before. The unknown doesn’t scare us. It inspires us.
I am so proud that VCU graduates will be at the forefront of advancing the human experience in the next generation. They are more than just our university’s newest alumni, they are our world’s newest leaders and discoverers.
Please join me in celebrating their moment today and the future they behold. They make us so proud, and inspire us.
