Welcome back. I hope you are refreshed and ready for spring classes to begin.
Monday, January 16 marks the official start of MLK Celebration Week 2017 at VCU. During this week of reflection, discussion and action, we have the opportunity to start the year focused and ready to make a positive impact on campus and in the many communities that make up Richmond. VCU’s dedication to diversity, inclusion, and community service is a reflection of the values Dr. King encouraged us to embrace.
Classes will not be held on Monday as we join the nation in celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. King. I encourage you to gather with your classmates, teachers, and community members Monday evening to participate in the MLK Candlelight Vigil at the VCUarts Depot. Starting at 7:06 p.m., participants will have the opportunity to gather in silence and participate in a march in honor of Dr. King and his mission of equality.
There are so many meaningful activities planned for MLK Celebration Week. I encourage you to take a look at the schedule and participate and celebrate the legacy of Dr. King.
