On Monday, January 15 MLK Celebration Week at VCU will begin. This year marks the fifth year of honoring the legacy of Dr. King with service and positive action. In addition, we are delighted to welcome Martin Luther King III as keynote speaker.
During this week of reflection, discussion and action, we will have the opportunity to begin the year prepared to make a positive impact on campus and in the diverse communities that make up Richmond. VCU’s dedication to diversity, inclusion, and community service is a reflection of the values Dr. King encouraged us to embrace.
Classes will not be held on Monday as we join the nation in celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. King. I encourage you to gather with your classmates, teachers, and community members to participate in activities beginning Monday morning.
On Monday evening, the MLK Candlelight Vigil at the VCUarts Depot will start at 7:06 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to gather in silence and participate in a march in honor of Dr. King and his mission of equality.
There will be a school supply drive benefitting Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School. Collection locations can be found here.
There are so many meaningful activities planned for MLK Celebration Week. I encourage you to take a look at the schedule and participate and celebrate the legacy of Dr. King.
